My car did this, I replaced the MAF and it was still there. The car was sputtering and not driving very good either. The harness that runs down by the pass side header had gotten too close to the header and melted. I pulled the harness out, extended every wire, and ran the harness down the back side of the motor to keep it away from the header. Fixed the MAF problem, and I no longer have to worry about that harness burning on the header again.

Is your car still running alright, or is it sputtering?

It still sputters at idle sometimes, but I only drove it for like 5 minutes

I'd check that harness. How long have you had the headers on there?

Hmmm, would be kinda weird for that harness to burn after that long. Is the pigtail going to the MAF still in good shape?

I got one a couple years back from the dealership. Couldn't find one anywhere else.

Is it still running crappy? Do you have the MAF facing the correct way? It sounds stupid, but it would cause issues if it is not facing the correct way. Other than that, I am out of ideas. My buddies 97 was not running good at all, was backfiring horribly, and throwing a P0100. Turned out he had some crossed wires after installing his last opti, we fixed that and the code went away. I think that was just a coincidence though.

Also, check your fuses, I know when my car was having MAF problems there was a 20 amp fuse in the fuse box that had blown.

car actually runs fine, stumbles rarely at idle, where would the fuse be located?

That is the same one that blew on my car. I believe there is a number of things that can cause it to blow, but im not sure what they are, other than the wires in that harness shorting out by the passenger side header.

The fuse blows right when I put the key on, I couldn't see any problems from the wires coming from the pigtail up to the first set of injectors on the driver side
