Default 3/8" vs 7/16" Rocker Arm studs

Hi guys,

I'm planing on buying a set of Comp Pro-mag 1.6 NSA rocker arms (along with the guideplates and hardened pushrods so I can eventually buy a good size cam).

I'm assuming since my heads and valvetrain are stock I've got the 3/8" rocker arm studs.

What are the advantages of upgrading to the 7/16" studs and rockers?

Valvetrain rigidity and longevity, the cost of the rocker arms doesnt change that much if any and studs are cheap. This is definitely the time to go for it.

7/16 studs are more rigid and will help stabalize your valvetrain. Less flex means more accurate valve timing and less harmonics. It's not a necessary upgrade with a stock cam. I would do it if you plan on changing to something bigger tho.

ARP 134-7103 I found theses I'm guessing that they should work with guides plates also.

Ah alright that makes sense, thanks everyone for your input.

So that leads to my next question:

If I switch to 7/16" studs, do I need to drill out the old stud holes, tap them, and put in new helicoils? (I'm also assuming they've got helicoils since the heads are aluminum).

Or are the 7/16" studs still 3/8" on the end that threads into the head, and 7/16" on the end that the rocker arms mount to?

Kind of a stupid question but I have no clue lol

The new stud utilizes the same thread in the heads that the old studs do - it's where the rocker trunion sits where the increased diameter falls into play.

Remove old, install new, done.

Even on a stock cam 7/16 will help especially at higher RPM..it's one of those mods that you can do one time and enjoy

They have to be rockers made to fit 7/16 studs and not 3/8.
