Default Spec 4 in a street/strip setup?

I am picking up a t56 swap that comes with a spec 4 clutch. I am building a 383 to put in front of it but this car is a street car before all else. I did a search and it seems the spec 4 is oriented more for drag use, is this clutch going to be too much for a street car and if so what about it makes it not so street friendly?

there's no forgiveness with a solid hub clutch. I'm running the spec 5, very hard to modulate the pedal at all, its either on or off. I've got 4.71 gears and bias plies, my best strategy to get the car moving... rev between 1500-2000, drop the clutch and you're moving. Not the smoothest obviously, but probably helps the clutch life some.

I'm using the spec 4 disc with an slp pp and I don't think it grabs too harsh. I have probably 50 hard launches at the track on it and still feels fine.

You can easily use it for the street. It is very on/off, but like anything you get used to it and learn your own techniques when driving it.

I've been running one on my car everyday for the last 6 months and i have no problems. Takes some getting used to at first its really grabby during break-in. Its just on/off like wicked said^ i just give it alittle gas and dump it.

I think that says it all right there...probably not the best clutch for me! Thanks for the replies, helpful as always!

You can look into a spec 3+ its a solid disk and supposed to hold alot of power and be pretty street friendly

Yeah I would love to have one but I can't really afford it right now. They are spendy but everyone who has one seems to think they are worth the money, you never hear someone say anything negative about them.

I have a 4200 lb car with a 383/T 56....did run a SPEC 2+ which did hold the motor well but did not last long. Not bashing SPEC and have had excellant response from their customer service. The 2+ was not friendly on street stop/go traffic as I assume the 3, 4, etc might be. Again that clutch did hold well at the track.

I now run the ZOOM HP which is VERY smooth on the street (after break in) and holds well at the track. The SPEC did hit harder but not by much.

If your PRIMARY goal is streetable might want to consider the Kevlar disc ZOOM.

Clutchs are like high stall TC....some feel they are fine on the street while others don't.....YMMV
