i work at a dealership, one of the techs sold me a LT1 with a lt4 cam. The "lt4 cam" has the numbers 586ac97 on the end, anyone know if that is really a lt4 hot cam?

There is a very distinct difference between the LT4 cam and the LT4 "hot" cam. The "hotcam" was an aftermarket offering that did not come in any production vehicle, while the LT4 cam was only a slightly more aggressive cam that came in the factory LT4 engines. The easiest way to determine what cam it is is to measure the gross lobe lift with a caliper (since you work at a dealership) and subtract the diameter of the base circle, and compare that with the LT4 cam and hotcam specs.
The hotcam had a gross lift of .525" (on both I and E). This equates to .492" of physical lobe lift.
The production LT1 cam had a gross lift of .446" intake, .449" exhaust.

Thanks man, that's pretty close to mine. So i'm thinking it is actually a gm hotcam, the dowel is over half inch which i thought was 96-97lt1's, just trying to make sure before i build this motor.
