Default quick o2 question

Me and my friend are arguing about 02's. since my car has a misfire and it might be 02's. I say the only 02 sensor that can cause a misfire is the one BEFORE the cat, he says either one could cause a misfire because they work together... Whos right?

from what i have heard seen or read, the ones after the cat dont do anything but monitor. but.. is the car missing in open loop to? that would show that its not the o2's

well just in the morning or whenever before the car warms up does it miss? the car always starts in open loop then the o2's and other parameters have to reach their mark for it to switch into closed loop. which is where it then feeds off the o2 sensors and sends fuel corrections.

so when you start your car up does it miss automatically? if so its not the o2's

I don't know if it helps but I've never had misfire problems with not running the O2's or while having a bad one. I have both disconnected now and runs smooth with a 1-2mpg drop in mileage. If the O2 is bad, the check engine light will come on after the sensor can't reach it's neccesary voltage. From my TA and other cars, misfires are gonna be caused from plugs or elsewhere. The stock computer fuel mapping isn't crazy rich to cause the plugs to miss like that.

ya.. also to get into open loop just unplug an o2 sensor, it will not go into closed loop and see if you still have the miss. if you do its not o2 sensors
