Exclamation is it okay to drive with a p0400 code?

I have a p0400 code, (exhaust gas recirculation flow malfunction) on my '96 firebird Formula, the car has run fine since i bought it, no sutmbling, no unusual smells or anything at all, gas mileage is normal. Should i be alright to drive with this code or would it damage my car further? Also whats usually the most common problem, and what should i check first, then second etc?

just emissions, my p400 has been set since i owned the car.

if it isn't stalling, then your egr valve is probably stuck closed. you can just replace it or if you want to order some blockoff plates and take it off and plate it up...or just leave it as it is and make sure no vacuum leaks develop.
