Default Another Horsepower question

Hey guys I just purchased a 1995 trans am and im wondering what kind of numbers it might put down. Im probably going to get a tune soon but I was just curious. It has the following.

Engine is from a 1996 formula / 6 speed
K&N CAI
Edelbrock Headers
Full Flowmaster exhaust
Brand new 3.73 gears

Just curious to see what you guys think it would put down. Also do you think it could take my buddies 03 mustang GT with CAI and Exhuast?

Any little advice to free up some extra horspower would be great too as I plan on getting it tuned in the near future.

Thanks, Chris

well you may want to ditch those headers too for some LT's. Than pick another muffler, I did have flowmaster at one time. I put a hooker aerochamber(same muffler as Hooker CB) and love it.

If you want 330rw your going to need all the bolt ons. I pretty much have all of them done to my car expect an LS lid and a e wp. If i did both i think i could of reached 340rw.

Your going to want to get:
1.6rr/springs
52mm TB
crank Pulley
PCM tune
LT headers
new muffler
and true duals if you can afford it.

Do you think my car now will take my buddys GT? Also I live in PA and I believe that 95 and back only have to pass visual emissions inspection could someone tell me if I am right? Also if thats true if I just gutted the cat and the muffler would that work pretty well?

~280, and yes it will take the GT assuming you can drive it.

Longtubes, a tune, and a real exhaust will easily get you over 300.

you shouldn't have any problem w/ that stang if its stock. 95 and below only has a visual inspection in my state(mass) and their eco-****'s. I wouldn't run a gutted cat, the empty cat will create turbulence. you can prolly find a lax shop that will pass you w/ no cat, if not get one of these -> http://www.frozenboost.com/index.php...4dc11f7f10267a
also leave the tune for last and Ion @ madtuner does great work in my book!
edit: if you want to keep the flowmaster get a cut-out, that would also take care of the cat. a couple more cheap mods are the LT4 knock module and a lower t-stat like a 160 which will either require a manual switch or tune to get the full benefit. do a search on free mods in the LT1 section and read all the stickies @ the top, free mods might even be covered in there. here ya go-> https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...ewbie-faq.html <-

No that's unfortunately not correct. In PA you need to pass the sniffer as well as the visual with an OBD1 car (1995 and earlier.) I had alot of issues with that in the past. Anyways, don't gut the cat or else you will not pass emissions testing. My suggestion is for you to ditch the flowmaster catback and edelbrock shorties considering they are less than ideal. A set of LT's with a catted Y and a good catback will keep you emissions friendly at the same time allowing you to make a good amount more power. To reach your goals you will need to consider a mild cam swap, a stock internal 6-speed LT1 simply does not eclipse the 300-305rwhp typically unless the dyno is being generous.

You'll rape any mostly stock/mildly modified pre-05 Mustang GT...05-10 is even a close race with bolt on LT1's...2011 however it seems Ford's Mustang GT will finally top GM's 1992 technology

I love mustang racing guys...lol

also to gain some ponies ditch the 3.73's and go with 4.10's or 4.11's...
3.73's are usually what you'd do for an automatic car for an upgrade, 4.10's are better for M6 cars...

Well I had a set of richmond 3.73s that were brand new so there gonna go in plus I drive my car a lot and being its my daily driver they will do fine for now im guessing. After a cam and some heads ill go back to some 4.10's. Any other suggestions?

There is no way you're going to get 340 without doing at least a cam swap....period!
