Default MAF Necessary?

I see several engine bay picture on these forums and around the internet, looking at the intake and there is no MAF there. Where could it be?

93 models don't have a MAF - they run speed density.

There are also track only cars that are not 93 model years that choose to run in speed density mode thus removing the need for the MAF.

bigger cammed cars run better in SD imo, the maf doesn't do as good with the reversion. I've run both a MAF and SD setup on my car, SD seems crisper to me.

MAFs are for noobs!!!!

jk, but just like Wicked said, MAF sensors do not like big cams with a lot of overlap so removing it and getting an SD tune can help with drivability.

Also, at huge hp levels it becomes an actual air restriction between the intake and throttle body.

Speed Density is not a track-only solution, it is merely an alternative to having a MAF. And as previously stated, at higher flow rates the MAF is a restriction rather than an aid.

no you don't have to run one... i think speed density is pretty easy to tune with, don't have to worry about your MAF going bad, etc. but its up to you. will you gain anything on a run of the mill H/C lt1? probably not unless you're making over 450 rwhp. But i think my driveability it pretty damn good for how big of cam i'm running.
