Honestly I love the LT1 BUT if you are going to carb it do yourself a favor and put a Gen 1 motor in it.

Isn't an LT1 with a carb on it and an HEI distributor essentially a Gen 1 with reverse cooling heads?

That depends on what kind of gen I he would be dealing with. A stock LT1 with a carb is still a much better motor than a stock gen I with a better carb, unless you're getting into later model Vortec 350s but the LT1 still has a more useful cylinder head stock for stock.

GM Performance Parts sells a dual plane carb intake manifold for the LT1. Aside from that all you really need is a carb and distributor, and probably a fuel pressure regulator.

No it is not it was a re-design. The block is different and the heads. Crank is also not the same. hell gen1 main bolt don't even fit in an LT1

I did say essentially the same not EXACTLY the same, caprice had basically dismissed an LT1 as being useless without EFI in this post as well as another recent post and that a gen 1 would be more suitable for his build. Aside from reverse cooling and a 1 piece rear main seal they are ESSENTIALLY the same. LT1s can and have made very adequate powerplants even without the multiport EFI

An LT1 with a carb reduces heads and intake choices or makes choices more expensive by the time you convert them. Makes for more expensive waterpumps and dampers too.

An LT1 is VERY much the same as a gen 1 motor BUT the reverse flow cooling limits head selection which limits intake selection. Yes you can convert stuff but the cost of conversion makes it not such a good deal when you could start with a gen 1 for cheap and not deal with conversion.

One of you said gen 1 main bolts wont fit a LT1, how do you figure?

The dual plane LT1 intake is more than twice as expensive as an Edelbrock Performer rpm intake for a Gen 1 motor which has the same 1500-6500rpm rating and the GMPP intake is made by Edelbrock so I think it safe to say they are similar.

LT-1 early LT1
LT1 late model LT1

That crossed my mind before I posted the first time BUT the fact he said it currently has injection leads me to believe he has an LT1 as opposed to the LT-1

The software to tune a 94-5LT1 is under $100 and the swap from the 97pcm to the 94-5 is really really easy, same wiring.

So it will cost MORE to convert to a carb than to tune the pcm.

A 97 harness will work with a 94-5pcm though so it is easier yet.

I have a 96 and am running a 95pcm, have been for like 8 years now. You either change the knock sensors, solder a $.40 resistor inside the pcm or shut off the CEL for improper knock sensor resistance.

WHO has software for a 100.00 dollars? I talked to 3 shops they all said to tune my car with efi would cost 800 to 1500. This is not a stock motor it a buit motor. All I ask what intake to run a carb not what is best. I dont want efi is not the way I want to go.

This is about carb not efi . I get it now you guys have never had a car tuned before other than a hand held junk. I am talking about take it to a shop and dyno it and then tune it over and over until you get max HP. Now where is the shop will do this for a 100.00 I will take it to them .
