Default A little bit of a choice

Well, i am getting ready to swap out the SBC in my 1988 300zx (Z31) with a 1996 LT1. The engine has a cam, although i am not sure of the exact specs, 1.6 rockers, and will have all the other bolt ons. It will eventually have a nitrous shot ranging from 100-150. The rear end ratio is 3.90, and i am using a TH350. Tire size is 275-40-18.

Now, the question is: Should i run a stand alone, like megasquirt, or use the stock ecu and a swap harness. I don't know which i should choose. On the one hand, mega-squirt will run me around 500-700 depending on what i find and where i get it, can control a crap-ton of functions, and i can run dizzy-less when/if the opti decides to crap out. On the other hand i have a swap harness which will run me around 300 + the ecu cost and whatever i use to program it.

Ive been lurking around here, learning a lot, just wanted to see what you guys thought.

For simplicity and costs sake, I'd just use the LT1 ECU. Using an OBDI PCM and Tunercat, you can control your "crap-ton of functions" just fine (with or without the optispark). You can still run a conventional distributor if you choose with a converted intake manifold and delete the PCM altogether.

yea, i think i will go with the swap LT1 harness and OBD1 ecu. Now, i just need the ecu, ac and ps delete pulleys, and a flywheel and im ready to rock.

If you're interested I have a 93 harness and pcm.....I know they're not the most desireable, but it's a start......if you're interested shoot me a pm and we'll talk.

If you can do it for only $700 I would use Megasquirt over the LT1 stuff.
