Default LT1 Intake bolts Torque spec

Last time I tried to follow the Lt1 torque specs on a 97 camaro I broke a damn intake bolt. Anyone have a part number to some ARP's or a better way to torque these damn stock intake bolts. 71 first pass and then 35 second pass is not woking for me. I don't want to F' up these heads.

did you tighten them in the right order? must have been a weak bolt or something because ive never had an issue with 71 / 35

71 inch pounds first pass and 35 foot pounds second pass is the GM spec.
Cant see how your busting bolts at these specs unless the torque wrench is busted. I would expect the head threads to strip before busting a bolt.

Really? maybe but now it's got me spooked to do it again. Can you explain how you did yours so I can compare? I know it's straight forward but I would like to compare.

Thats what I did and I broke number 2.
I have a deflection wrench I use to check the clicker style wrench to make sure it's on the money.

The last time I heard of anyone breaking an intake bolt was when the person was using 71 LB. FT instead of IN for the first pass . At only 35 LB FT total, no intake bolt should be breaking.

Wow why did you think you went so tight the first pass and less the next? Anyway just get them snug with a ratchet one pass and you can do them all at like 10 or 20lbs so their all the same and then torque them to spec from there

Yea I don't know I quit smoking and needless to say I started back up because my brain will not function when I quit. I don't know what I was thinking. I did think it was odd but not enough going on up stairs to question it. I'll do that tonight and I should not have a problem this time.

A solid insert (like a Timesert) is an alternative to Heli-coil.
