I had an Optima, nothing but issues, they never wanted to warranty it either at Auto Zone. Ended up going to Sears for a Diehard.

Does the die hard fit in the tie-down like the Optima?

Fits just fine, when I went to Sears I told them what car it was for, so I imagine it's a factory replacement. My last Optima red top would not hold charge, but the auto zone machine said it was good. So the guy said no replacment for me that the battery was good because the machine said so. That was until he found out it was out of warranty, then it's you need a new battery and the machines wrong. The year one is a nice piece, for the Firebirds its kinda goofy how it bolts up around the the rubber head light gaurd. If I was home I'd take a picture but I wont be back home for another two weeks.

Thanks Jaycenk!

So far my Optima has been fine and the car cranked right up after sitting uncharged for the winter. Truthfully the only reason I bought one is because they look cool.

I did a similar thing to AC. His looks a little cleaner than mine though. For the rear bolt I took out the stock wedge, put the bolt up through the bolt hole for it, then bent the one for the front just right so that it can hook on the rail that comes across the front but still come straight. I did have to cut the front bolt for hood clearance. At least with the lengths my AZ had available.

How did you set yours up? It looks a tad cleaner than mine does.

I copied ac after seeing his pictures some months back. I asked him where he got his and did the same. Just drilled a hole on the coolant overflow tank and put the j-hooks through. Cut bolts to length and done.

Ya its pretty simple just a kit form Pep boys and trimmed it to fit and bolted to the resivior.

Stupid plastic wedge broke and needed something to be legal. Plus without a hold down it would rub on the radiator and it eventually wore a hole in it on the plastic side tank.

My stock hold down would not fit over the optima and pressure it down, the optima base would slide from under it.

Here is how mine looks, it may only be temporary, I'll likely relocate it to the passenger rear behind the panel.
