Would this starter from an LT4 work on the LT1?

because the starter they have for the LT1 is alot more money.

I"m viewing this from my phone atm so the LT4 starter will work on my LT1? If it does that would be great!

Thanks!

Yes, exactly, the only difference in a lt1 and lt4 is the intake, heads and 4 bolt main, the block themselves are the same. So you get a smaller, lighter starter, with just as good starting power!

All of you should read this post, I have found all autozones have different pricing on products, so its wise to check around the closest 2 or 3 around you. You might be surprised at the price differences of products ;p

Okay I got my LT4 starter today and I'm running into some problems. The lt1 starter there seems no way for me to get it out, there is 2 lines from the tranny in the way and the Y pipe. is there a magic way to get it out and put in the lt4 starter that I don't know of?

undo the trans lines at the transmission end.
Its been a while since i did it, but i think you can pull it around the line without undoing the lines.

2 bolts

The exhaust might have to come down if its in the way. Take the 2 bolts out then pull the starter out so it hangs down, then remove the wires behind it.

I think the nut your asking about is either 8mm or 10mm socket

Oh and don't forget to disconnect battery before doing it!

You may or may not have to drop the y-pipe. I was able to do it without it though...

Okay I took a shot at it today after work, and I got it all done within 10 minutes... must have been the sun or good luck shining on me today

It slid right out like butter.

I'm going to write what I used and how I did it just in case for anyone in the future that never done this and what they need to save time.

The small theft deterrent wire is 10mm (I used a 6" extender to get leaverage on this from the y pipe side facing the wheel),
the 12v Power is 12mm (I used a 6" extension to get leverage on this and room form behind the Y-pipe)
The 2 bolts that bolt the starter up is 15mm (put in the long bolt 1st only to where its almost tighten then put in the small length bolt to align it correctly then tighten both of them)

To get it out (on an auto) you can leaverage the tranny lines by putting your right hand from the outside of the y pipe an over and pulling it like your making a fist, it gives enough room for the starter to slide right out with gravity helping.

Hope this helps someone in the future since I could not find any write ups on what sizes and how to do it anywhere.

Thanks for everyone who commented and gave me advice on how to do this

Wow, Thanks a lot for this. I've been searching for write ups as well and have found nothing. Glad to hear I don't have to drop the Y pipe.

i disconnected the pass side motor mount and jacked the motor up to get the starter through the front. great alternative if you do not want to mangle your rusty y-pipe
