I still use the Autozone ones..never really had any problems out of them, and free replacements.

^ I also go with the Autozone starters, but last time I went with PN: 17124, it is actually a Lt-4 mini-starter from the vettes. Bolts up perfectly of course, is lighter by a few pounds and easier to install because there is no snout, as you will see in the pics. Ohh and best part, wayy cheaper! Only $118.99 with your core and they don't care if the core is the same.

Ya they really don't care..I got a free one for my truck..the LS Car Starter is one number off of the part number for the LS Truck one, I just told them that it was a typo and I got my free truck one using the one that was in the System for my Camaro..

i bought an autozone one in early january and just replaced it this week. Im starting to realize that oem starters dont like turning over my 12.6:1 compression383......but lifetime warranty FTW!

Lower your cranking spark advance. You will find a balance to where its ideal. Meaning, how fast it catches to how much the starter draws. Too much advance can increase draw, and too little will increase cranking time. Get the crank timing too far advanced and youll find out if the starter case is strong enough!

P.S. If you have more then one Autozone around you, check prices on the starter. I just checked the one closest to me and they have the starter listed at $140 without core charge, yet another AZ only 5 more minutes further away has it listed as $118 on their site without the core charge, same PN... WTH, no idea...

^ Get the car up in the air and make sure the rear wheels are chalked, or in the air, with the car in park and parking brake on. Crawl underneath the car with a small wire, with both ends exposed. Go to the starter and jumper the big post with the heavy gauge wire coming from the battery to the small post with the purple wire going to it. If the starter turns over the motor, the starter is good and it's not getting signal, if the starter spins but you does nut turn over the motor, you have a bad bendix gear. If you get nothing, not even a click then your solenoid is dead and time for a new starter...

if there's no sounds, not even a click (from the dash area) it could be your ignition switch, or possibly the theft deterrent relay under the passenger side dash.

Blk Ws6, did you perform the test I said above with jumping the wire? If you did this and you didn't get anything from the starter, then it is dead. Jumping it bypasses all of the relays, switches and anything else. It is the same as bench testing it...

Starter button ftw. You should always have one around, just in case.
