Default Long Tube How-To

Hey guys. I don't step into this section much, but I might be getting an LT1 for a DD. I'll want to throw on a set of LT's on to make it sound half-decent. I'm curious if there is a how-to website, or any detail LT installation threads.

Also, I'll be trying to do this as cheap as possible. Is Pacesetter the best bang for the buck? Perhaps Ebay headers?

Thanks!

I went with ebay stainless steel and havent had any problems with them... real cheap price.
If you use the search feature you can find write ups here or on google theres a lot out there.
I didnt think they were nearly as hard as some people try and make them seem. Good Luck
Also I would throw in OTVC wires too so you don't run into problems in burning up your plug wires, someone on here sells them, or you could make your own.

Pacesetters are by far the best bang for the buck in a coated header. The ebay ones unfortunatly only come in race version without the emission stuff. The install is pretty straight forward i just did mine on the ground. Lots of PB blaster on all the bolts to help the process. Drivers side slides in from the top with a bit of manoevering and the passenger slides in from the top aswell with the removal the motor mount bolt and jacking the motor up it literally falls into place. Other then that pulling the starter, alternator, steering knuckle, and if you need to the power steering pump to access the wires and bolts. Make sure you get good header gaskets im fighting leaks right now.

Thanks for the pointers guys! Definitely sounds like the Pacesetters are the way to go. I need it to be emissions compliant. I'll re-use the stock cats, get a Y-pipe fabbed up, and put a dump on it. Should sound good

That is what I thought, until I watched a friend of mine slip his in through the top. And I helped another friend install his on his 94, and they slipped in the top also. I put mine in through the bottom though, I tried the top but they wouldn't fit that way on my car.

That's super helpful and sounds like it would save a lot of time! Did that work with the pacesetters? What all did you have to remove? Alternator, PS, and valve covers?

Thank you for that document! That's the exact sort of thing I was looking for!

Does the #1 tube come off on most brands, or is that unique to the Hookers?

Hookers and Jet-Hots are the only ones I am aware of that have that. Pacesetters and Kooks I know for a fact do not. My Jet-Hot's were a little easier to install than my Pacesetters but the difference wasn't much.

I read the word install document, very informative. Is all that heat wrapping in the guide neccessary? What about extending the wires that he mentioned? I have a set of pacesetter long tubes I'm getting ready to install and don't want to have to stop to make trips to the store for more odds and ends.

Based on my LS1 experience:

You will need to get extensions for your front O2 wires. Your rear ones are not really required since you'll probably want to tune them out, or get O2 sims. Unless, of course, you are planning on having an emissions-legal setup.

As for heat wrapping...not a bad idea to do the fuel lines. As for the other ones, get them far out of the way. If you can't, wrap them.

Better safe than sorry. Trust me on that; I burnt through my front O2 wires

Just make sure that anything that is going to be exposed to heat is wrapped and taken care of. I have yet to install my Pacesetters but I too am not looking forward to it.
