Default keeping the valves seated, replacing valve springs, seats, ect...

Okay guys, so i have my motor on the engine stand, oil pan is off, the valve springs are off, now just the valve valve seat/seal, and the bottom retainer, I have a leak down test, could i use this to fill the chambers one by one, so i can change these springs seats, seals, and bottom retainer? also i ordered the part number: 12555884 - GM Z-28/LT1 High Volume Oil Pump - Use with .620' diameter, but the driveshaft to the drive gear is like really little compared to the old one and it has no pick up tube, can i use the old one?

On the valve question, yes you can fill the cyl with air and use it to hold up the valves.

That or put the piston for the cylinder you're working on at TDC...

That pump has a 5/8 (.625) inlet (early LT1s came with 5/8 inlet pumps, but they switched to 3/4 inlet around 1995). I don't believe that is an HV pump (which you don't want/need). Not sure what the difference in driveshaft is you are referring to (there should be none). I don't ever reuse a screen, but I guess you could if it was cleaned up and welded on.

I would use a pump like the Melling 10554 instead (3/4 inlet).

Okay so I've done 3 valves now, no issues, pull the seal up take the bottom retainer off and push the seal back on, now that I pulled the seals off with pliers, i can pull them off by hand, and these bottom retainers look the exact same! size and everything, could i just leave the old retainers and seals on and just replace the top retainer, and locks? this would make my life so much easier!

Always better to replace the seals when you have the chance, IMHO. You have the motor on a stand. You can't get any easier than that.

I changed my springs and seals with the engine in the car and it only took me a couple of hours. I don't see what the time problem is. Once the spring is off, it takes about a minute to change a seal.

But I don't have replacements, It will take up to 2 weeks to get the seals here, and by that time I will be out a job, out of school, and out of money!
