Hey guys,

I absolutely love living in an area with ridiculous emissions laws (Atlanta). I am looking to buy a 95 lt1 car, but it has no cats on it. He had a LT4 hotcam installed and tuned as well. If I buy cats and have them installed, will it be likely that I will pass a sniffer test? If so, what exactly should I be looking to get on a budget?

Should pass with no problems as long as the cats/egr/air still on the car. Well if the test is anything like TNs that is.

If you put cats on it should be no porblem. The hot cam isn't big enough to mess with emissions

Chances are though he removed the EGR. I would be cautious in buying that because what would you do with a car you cant have inspected? Do you have any more information on the car?

Mine easily passed the IM240 treadmill back in 1999 up in MD.

The cam will affect emissions - but as stated, with everything in place and operating correctly, it "should" pass the IM240 test. Just get the cats hot prior to the test. Worst case, you'll need small adjustments in the tune.

Talked to an exhaust guy down here... got a quote to install cats. Drove some ungodly distance (330 miles there)... was almost 100% going to buy the car... but it had a significant unadvertised oil leak coming from both the front main seal and from the valve cover... after I asked multiple times before the trip if it leaked any fluids. I was like eh... no thanks (with some advice)... that doesnt make me feel too good about a recent full rebuild.

Oh well... I will get my LT1 one of these days. In the meantime, I appreciate all of the responses.
