Default Trying to pick a cam

Ok i will start ordering parts soon and plan on getting AI 190 cc heads and valvetrain from them but i not sure wat cam to pick. I dont want to spin this motor much more than stock just enough to get my 400 rwhp goal I am odering new LT headers and having the block hot tanked and bored .30 over for a 355 setup and a 3200 stall and i am rebuilding the trans and upgrading a few parts in that Going to have to cross my fingers on driveshaft and rear end for the moment after the motor and trans wont have the money for them I also am having the intake matching and ported slighty also AI Compression will be up around 11:1 maybe higher depending on if i think it will do ok on pump gas So after this long post wat would be a good cam to choose i want something more than a cc306 or cc503 but like before dont want something i have to spin really high to make power Please help here thanks guys

You keep contradicting yourself.

The 503 probably needs to see 64-6500, the 306 more like 6800+, but you don't want to spin higher than stock, but you want "more" than either of those. Then you want 400rwhp which aint going to happen at stock rpm levels.

You are rebuilding it anyway, have the rods reconditioned or replaced and rpms become safe and reliable, then let AI spec you a cam.

Since you are going through AI to begin with, why don't you have them spec a cam for you? What better person to profile you a cam than the guys doing your heads? They'll deliver.

And if you're going to want that 400whp, you're going to need to spin it around 500rpm higher depending on the grind (best guess). HP needs RPMs - there's no real way around that. You want something more than the 306, but the 306 makes power all the way to 6800, substantially higher than stock. What is your biggest concern with RPMs, especially since you're rebuilding? Doesn't make much sense to limit yourself.

You can safely bump your SCR higher to around 12.0 to bring your DCR (depending on your cam) up a bit to help with your power goal while still meeting pump gas requirements. AI will recommend something for you.

i was spinning my bone stock bottom end to 6500 every time i went to the track. my new setup will be fully forged with a 12.2:1 SCR (8.93 DCR) and ill spin it to about 7k. if you're rebuilding anyway just do it right and it will be fine to 6500 all day

I've got an AI cam that i was shifting at 6700-6800 and making great power with. Im actually selling it send me a PM. It came out of my 355 with untouched trick flow heads and 11:1 CR, I went 11.40 @121 in a 3450lb car with it. Its an awesome cam. Off the top its a 234/242 .595/.595.........PM me for more details.
