Default Bout to slap on the heads

Well I got my short block together. I'm about to slap on the heads this weekend. Any nubbbie mistakes I should be aware of? Also some people tell me I should use thread lock. I was just going to use the assembly lube that the arp bolts came with... Oh and thread sealant (like a never seize or something)
These are the head bolts I have.

Do not use thread lock!

When I install heads I do not use the ARP lube. Instead I use a Teflon thread sealer made by Loc-Tite. If you go this route you need to torque the head bolts pretty quickly to get the best results from the sealer.

I've always used Permatex #2 non-hardening sealant and have never had a problem. I've been told to use this by local engine builders (one pretty well known across the US). If there is any reason I shouldn't use it, someone please school me. I'll never stop learning.

I was on shbox website, just now and noticed I am going to have to angle torque my heads... I do not have a torque wrench with one of those angle indicators on it. Would torquing the heads down like 93-95 models be a problem. If so i guess I'll have to find or buy the right torque wrench.

The method of tightening the head bolts varies with whatever type of bolt you use. What bolts are you using?

The ARP head bolts that you have are not TTY. First snug them. Then torque them in steps following the factory order (45, 55, 65).

well I put one head on today... I'll do the other tomorrow after work... Chased all the bolt holes. Got all the bolt snug then torqued them in sequence like stated above. Quadruple checked everything.... One step closer on this slow build.

Instead of starting a new thread I will add to this one. Now with LS7 Lifters how can you get the true length reading? I want to make sure I get the correct pushrods for this.

You have to measure with a pushrod length checking tool.

Yes I know about the length measurement tool. But it is to my understanding that you need to pressurize the LS7 lifters to get a true reading. Any insight on doing this without starting the engine.

You can safely take one apart and replace the plunger with something that won't compress. I used a bolt and ground it to length, and installed it.

Just don't forget to reassemble it the right way.
