Default Replacing opti

How much coolant to drain in order to remove the WP? Both side of the block have to be drained? Or just the radiator or both? Thanks for your input.

There is always some that stays in the lower part of the water pump and you are going to lose a little when you pull it loose from the block anyway, so I always just drain the radiator.

Ditto. Pulling the fans is a piece of cake and makes for a MUCH easier swap.

So, theres no neeed to drain the block? Just the radiator. And yes, I'll be removing the fan unit as well.

yeah, you don't need to worry about the block. A little will come out when you pull the pump off, but it won't be that bad. Just keep a pan under where the pump is and it should catch most of it.....Then pull the balancer, wires, opti and replace. Shouldn't be too much work...

After draining the WP, i also unscrew the sensor in the waterpump. It helps to get more coolant out and it wont make as much of a mess when you remove the pump.

Do that w/ a full radiator and it'll make a huge mess.

Do yourself a favor and fire the motor up without the water pump for a few seconds just to verify that the opti went on right. It wont hurt a thing.

good advice....you can actually run an engine without coolant for a decent amount of time.....

Back in the day we drained the oil and coolant on an SBC and then let it run 'til it blew.....took 2 hours before it actually let go completely....made hella noise first though.
