Just to clear thing up here... All you guys postin that your optis lasted 100-200k mi, well most of your setups are stock with boltons, not spinning over 6k. Yes I can see them lasting that long. Do a heads cam package that needs to spin up to 6500+ rpm and report back, I gurantee you wont get a 100k mi out of it lol. Thats why the opti gets a bad rap, because once you start heavily modding the lt1, the opti starts being a ***** about it, plain and simple...thats why efi connection is offering the ls1 coil and pcm swap, they are picking up where gm left off with the shitty opti.
On to the next point... about 10yrs ago when my lt1 m6 car had cai, cb exhaust, chip, and shifter, I could walk lid only a4 ls1's. I could hang with and sometimes beat bone stock m6 ls1's, but once they did lid and exhaust around they came on the big end... Now Im not sure about all this jibber jabber about being even to the 1/8 and .3-.5 tenths ahead at the 1/4, but a good driver behind the wheel of a m6 ls1 is goind to drag some lt1 *** mod per mod. Im not biased either obviously since I had a lt1 car for almost 10yrs...


*when I say mod per mod I mean bolt on cars, because after that its all about money... a LT1 can be just is fast as a LS1 if you sink enough money into it!

CHECKING IN: Heads/cam/intake/injectors/full exhaust/TB, etc. etc. etc. shifting at 6500-6600 with rev limiter set at 6700, stock shortblock and stock OPTI. top end package has been on car for over 100k miles. OPTI performs flawlessly.

Yeah once he starts to mod it i can forget about it until i get the rebuild with the bolt ons i think i should have no prob with a 383 build with cam and head package

Alot of good points here. Some not so good at all. But like i said 2 pages ago. Any generation SBC can beat any Generation SBC. If you guys ever got out of the 4th Gen cockpits ounce in a blue, you would see most of the really fast cars are Gen1 SBC's and of course BBC's Go to E-Town or Atco raceway any day of the week, and see what i mean. This argument is about stockish or "bolt on" F-bodies. That being said, the new ones have always been faster since 71. Thats why we Hot rod our cars. And anyone that says "The LT1 is obsolete" is a fuking jack ***. And prob wont own there current car in 2-3yr's anyway. There sheeple..

Im not throwing stones, just speaking facts bro and I know plenty about the lt1 pcm capability(hince I owned 1 for 10 yrs). I never said anything bad about it. Quit twisting **** up and take it for what it is, The OPTI is JUNK! Whats my screen name got to do with anything, seems like your fishing to start a argument?? So your telling me your opti has lasted 100k mi spinning to 6700 rpm?

Actually with a well built 383 or 396 LT1 with the right combo of H/C and "bolt ons" he will blow it off the road. Not just "keep up"

not trying to argue, but you said you "guarantee" that an opti wont last 100k spinning to 6500+ rpms. i can promise you it will, and has. now when you start pressure washing under the hood frequently, that is another story. water will KILL an opti quicker than a soldier on his wife after coming home early. sorry if that hits home for some, was just a military joke. the opti is not a flawless design by any means, but if cared for "carefully" it can be extremely reliable. there are guys running stock short blocks with stock opti's well into the 9's. in fact, i believe the record for a stock shortblock is 9.44 and its sportin a stock opti.

Yea I agree, my dad ran a 632 bbc in a 85 tube chassis vette. Car had a lenco 4sp, fully adjustable clutch, it ran 7.80's @ 182 back in 1990. 20yrs later that car would still be considered bad ***. No na ltx or lsx platform has yet to do that. My whole point was other than the opti being junk, is anything can be made fast, it's all about how deep your pockets are. Hell my brother had a srt4 neon puttin down over 500whp @ 2800lbs, the car had an engine fire, wich resulted in a total loss. I sold him my 383 ltx m6 car with 43k mi and bought a ls1. AGAIN IM NOT BIASED TO EITHER PLATFORM, I LIKE ALL GEN SBC's!

Im well aware of that! I had a 383 m6 that ran pretty well on the street. My brother ran a h/c/i ls2 vette last fall with that car and only lost by 1.5 cars to 140, and the opti was on its way out, it started dropping a cylinder.

We will just agree to disagree bro... I have yet to see a opti last 100k mi being spun to 6700rpm that whole time. I have been around the lt1 game for a little while now. Im well aware guys are running 9's on the opti, but they are not lasting 100k mi doin it.

The OPTI in itself is a great idea..just poor location. There is an import that runs the same idea..I forgot which one it is..

I don't consider a lid a mod because they come stock as an SLP option. And a cut out isn't enough to make a difference. Next time I'll say 98% stock haha
