Default need help pulling motor

94 z28 lt1 t56. We are pulling the motor out the top because the motor was blown and we just wanted to get it out of there while waiting on parts to come in. The intake, exhaust, accesories, radiator, and everything else is out of the way. The problem is we cant seperate the engine from the trans, there is about a 1/2 inch gap between the two and that is all we could get without fear of breaking something in the tranny which we plan on useing. Is there something stupid that did not unhook that might be holding these together. I realy hope so let me know what you think.

Make sure before you try and pull the trans out that you slid the clutch fork off the throwout bearing. Unbolt the clutch slave and pull the clutch fork down I bet thats your problem

may be in a bind if you have the motor lifted up. The input shaft on the tranny could be bound up or the clutch fork..after you get the clutch fork loose..try lowering the motor a little and using a pry bar to keep pressure....

As long as you have all the bolt out of the bell housing and and everything off the motor and the motor mounts all undone you should be good..

We had a time getting my motor and trans apart just because of what I stated above...

Hope that helps
Matt

Default clutch fork

We did not remove the the fork or slave cylinder. I hope it is that simple, never had to do that on other cars i have done before. Not going back at her tonight we will see in the morning. Hopefully the parts come in this week and we can get the other motor in next weekend. The new powerplant is a sbc 327. Thanks for the help and will let you know how we make out.

Well you might not have to do that on other cars but on lt1's for the trans to come off the clutch fork has to come off the throw out bearing

I never had problems with standard trannies til i tried to replace a clutch on an LT1...lol

But seriously, taking the motor out the top may be conveininet , but after you drop the K once you will never do through the top aagain, I like setting on a roll around seat and installing headers and not breaking my back.

I see this is a common problem glad to found the answer this is a great site. Are the ls1 clutches the same because this is my brother new project and he only got the motor because I am doing a ls1 t56 swap in my car, 68 camaro. A house and kid has had it side lined for a little bit.

I have never done the LS1 clutch, but I understand it is completely different and easier on the 2000 and up LS1s.

Please man, save your time and nerves and drop it out the bottom, if you have the ceiling room anyways.

1998-up is the F-body LS1's.. Clutches are a cakewalk..just bolt it all up and align it properly.

The LS1 is a push-type so it uses an internal Throw-out Bearing that is a complete nightmare to bleed without a Speed Bleeder..

The Cable you see here in the pic is the Speed Bleeder that is on mine..the LT1 doesn't need this.
