Heads are off...
-complete disassembly. When I mean complete, I mean, pistons, rings, timing chain, cam, crank, oil pump, EVERYTHING that bolts to the block needs to come out.
-cleaning, hot-tanking, magnafluxing
-machine work (boring, line-honing, crank polishing, etc.)
-reassembly (including balancing)
Take it to a machine shop and hope it doesn't run you more than $1800. Using stock resized crank and rods with a forged piston, and you MIGHT be under budget.
That should be your next course of action. This is not disputable. Turn the motor over and pull off the main caps and inspect the bearings and PULL EVERYTHING OUT.
In all honesty, you need to have it hot-tanked with the amount of gasket material, sludge, dirt, and grime you've accidentally dumped into it.
You need to cut your losses and start over.
Second, which side was the sound coming from? Driver or Passenger side??
