Default 1.65 rockers

Will 1.65 rr's work on a stock block/headed lt1?

Probably nothing, but I wouldn't pay very much for Harland Sharp's. Not exactly top of the heap these days.

in your opinion what is exactly top of the heap. lunatis, comps perhaps. Harland sharp makes an excellant product especially for what they cost. what makes them so inferior? Harland sharp actually has a customer service dept and sells replacement rockers if you do break one. try getting yella terra to do that. btw i have seen just as many yella terras break as harland sharp.

I am suprised no one has asked but what cam are you running as that will make a major difference esp on what your lift is?

That's going to be real close with a max lift of .600. Are you setup at the stock height - 1.8 (I believe)?

Personally, I'd stick with 1.6'ers as it will give you some safety room.

You can get away with the 1.65rr's NOTHING BIGGER THO, because you are at your maximum safety level.

oookay........and just where did that come from?

BTW, OP, If you're looking at CAT rockers, don't bother. I had a set in my hands marked 1.65 and they measured the same as the Crane Gold 1.6's. When I noticed the pushrod/head clearance the same as with adjacent Crane rockers still installed, I measured them and quickly got rid of them. No sense in running an inferior part for no potential gain.

Seems logical doesn't it? Unfortunately it doesn't work that way.

Nope. I've read this mis-information before, but it "ain't" so. The amount of preload doesn't effect valve lift. There are things that do but preload isn't one of them.

No matter what preload setting you use, the lobe lift multlipled by the rocker ratio, less any deflection will lift the valve the same amount.

holy **** ***** the advice in this thread is horrible...

jake is right though and pat knows what he's talking about... I think key questions here would be what springs are you running, and what is the installed height? This will determine what a safe amount of lift is for you to run. Generic statements like 1.8 installed height, and ".20" from "max" lift don't work here, sorry.

i deleted my post because i was wrong.....i still run within .20 of my max lift..but preload does effect hp output...dyno an engine with your lifters set with 20 preload then avg it out..then dyno the engine with the only changes being 60 preload and avg it out..the 20 preload motor will probley have an avg of 5hp more..
