i know this may sound strange, but im looking for photos of some stock LT1 and LT4 connecting rods. for those of you who have done rebuilds im guessing you may have some laying around you could snap a shot or two of. can you also please include the year and model of car they came out of? a while back i had to change out my oil pump pickup and the bottom end of the connecting rods did not look like any other chevy rod i had ever seen. just curious as to what others looked like that came of similar engines. thanks in advance.

is their a difference in strength between the two? i had not ever seen a SBC I-beam rod without a weight pad until i pulled my pan off. ive built several small blocks and had never seen any without the weight pads. have my rods been changed? did some LT1's come from the factory with these rods?

The original LT1 came with regular forged 350 rods, that were shot peened for localized hardness under the head of the bolt and nut. Powdered metal rods were phased in for the Corvette around 1994 and used in all of the LT1 engines by 1995. GM made the change because the powdered metal rods were cheaper to make and were much stronger than the GM high performance "pink" rods. In fact, they are supposed to be good for up to 450 hp. They are machined at the parting line so they can be reconditioned.
The early "pink" rods look like typical SBC rods. The PM rods are rounded and smooth on the cap like the first pic posted.
