Question newby to ltq... opti.... never messed with one, need advice

hi all hope you're all doin well, i just bought a 95 z28 last week and i am putting the motor in it, right now the engine is on a stand. i have built a couple sbc motors but never messed with an lt1, i keep seeing people say to make sure to put the opti on right... they say to **** it right or something, so how do i know when i have it on right? is it posible for me to put it on wrong and not realize it?

Since you have a 95, you have a vented optispark. The drive mechanism is very simple. The pin on the camshaft engages the "cloverleaf" on the back of the optispark. You'll see that one of the "leafs" is different than the other (squared off). That's where the pin is to be engaged. It IS possible to put it on wrong, but fairly difficult. The opti should seat flat against the timing cover when it's properly seated.
