Default Leaky Moroso pan?

My T/A has had a massive oil leak ever since I bought it. And I mean MASSIVE. To the point where my old landlord almost wouldn't give me my damage deposit back because I ruined his driveway.

I had put it up on a hoist before to check it out, and it looked like it was coming from just above the drain plug. It's a Moroso pan. We just pulled the engine out to have my 383 built, and I was looking at the pan trying to figure out if one of the welds was cracked. Can't find anything, but is there any way to really check? (with the pan off the engine I mean)

Also, there's another bung in the pan right above the drain plug. This might be where it's leaking from. What the heck is it for?

Hey buddy. I have no idea. I'm still learning all this stuff!! The car was put together a bit wrong when I got it, so it wouldn't suprise me if it's missing something. I'll take a picture of it tonight.

PS - When are you making the trek to come visit? We're having another big "engine work/bonfire" party again in 6 weeks. Tell your boss you want the time off!

Uh, isn't that a drain plug? lol Can't really see but I know some Canton pans have their drain plug on that side

Edit: Just read your entire original post. Hm.. That's odd. Are you sure it wasn't just a bad gasket leak?

Nope, it's on the top part of the little "shelf" that sticks out from the bottom of the pan. Drain plug is at the bottom/side corner

Its got a plug in it, but that entire side of the oil pan is soaked in oil, and I can't tell where else it could have come from

Is it dry above it? I'm going to go with the oil pan gasket or something related to it (maybe pan is bent and is not sealing correctly?)

Damn, that would drive me nuts lol. Long-shot, but maybe the plug isn't the right size? Post some pictures whenever you can. Best of luck!

That plug is for an accessory like oil temp sensor. Mine was not tight when it was shipped to me so I pulled it and wrapped it in Teflon and reinstalled it. It uses an alan head right?

Oh yea while it's out I noticed when I pulled all the plugs in these pans that they had weld BB's in the threads so make sure it clean while you have it out and use teflon on that plug and the oil level sensor plug if your not using the sensor.

i had that pan in my car for about 3 weeks ,it leaked the whole time due to the welds bein shitty . for a quick fix i ran a silicone called THE RIGHT STUFF ,it comes in a cheeze whiz type can . i ran it over the welds after cleanin it very well and let it sit overnight it slowed the leak down quite a bit , end result when i spun a rod bearing i sold the pan to a friend that didnt care about the leak and ran a stock one
