94 TA LT1 Header install EGR Delete question I am currently in the process of fixing oil leaks, changing the timing set, new opti and adding headers while trying to delete the EGR. I am thinking about going with the Pacesetter long tubes (race). I currently have the air pump removed as well as the tubing that connects the two manifolds together. When I was removing the stock exhaust manifold from the passenger side I found another tube that looks like it goes to the back of the intake manifold. The tube is bolted to the manifold near the down tube. I am doing all of this with the engine in car so as you know visibility is limited. Question-What do I do with this tube? Plug it/remove it? Does need to be hooked back up? Any help with this as well as other tips will be appreciated!! Thanks-Joe

That's the EGR tube. You can remove it completely and block the hole left on the intake manifold with a set of block-off plates (buy or make your own) reusing the factory nuts.
yep..take a piece of aluminum an place the end that bolts to the intake..trace it out an holes..then cut it out,you can use a big nail an block of wood to punch the hole out or a drill..then mock it up..after its good to go pull off and rtv it an bolt on an your good to go.
im also about to do headers, probably next weekend, but want o make sure i have everything to do it and polyurethane motor mounts while im in there. i was also curious if blocking the egr and air with plates would throw a engine light on? i have a 96 so its obd2
It will throw an error code on odbII unless you have it tuned out. Not sure about the 95 and earlier.

Thanks for the replies. I have ordered an EGR block off plate from Ebay for less than $15. Pacesetter LTs on the way. I do have another question though. It has the original O2 sensors from 94. Should I buy new ones?
If you buy coated headers, wait to install new O2s until after the headers shed a little of their coating inside (give it 500 miles or so). No sense gumming up new ones. Coated headers do this a bit and often clog O2s. Get a pair of AC Delco AFS75. No Bosch...

More problems During this project I have deleted the EGR, replaced the opti, new plugs and wires, new o2 sensors and added headers. Now when I go to start the car it turns over for about 15 seconds before it fires up. Once it starts it idles fine but there is a lag when you go to rev up the engine. Does anyone have any idea what this could be??

Still troubleshooting So I have replaced the fuel filter and it was not the cause of the delayed starting. I am leaning away from the fuel system as it was just fine before I made these minor mods. I did buy some o2 wire extensions in order to install the long tubes. If these were bad would this cause the problem? I have also tried cleaning the MAF with no luck. I ordered a OBD1 to USB cable and will try to read the codes when the cable arrives. Can anyone recomend a good software for this and for tuning? I realy do appreciate any feedback! - Thanks - Joe

I would think your idle issue would be due to the EGR delete, but I'm no pro on this topic. As far as dataloging software goes, you can download Datamaster TT. I got mine from a link at www.aldlcable.com -- You can check your codes with this software.

I found the problem - and yet still - another question.. Ok, I bought a cable to connect the car to my lap top and ran a free scanning software. The code was a 36 High-Res failure. I checked out all the wires, etc and suspected a bad opti (brand new from Oreilly's). To confirm I slapped the old one back on and sure enough fired rt up and didn't throw the code. I can't use it though because when you turn it you can feel the bearings are about to go..
Question, can any one recomend a good reliable replacement Opti that is a little more affordable than a new AC Delco? Maybe the bad part I got from Oreilly's was an uncommon problem but now I don't have much confidence.
Any advice?
