Default Some clarification about the cc306...

All these comments in a million threads about this cam being good or bad. I want to clarify the issue. The CC306 cam in itself is not bad. Sure, its getting kind of long in tooth compared to some more modern lobe designs. In the right hands, with the car and engine setup correctly, it can and will make good usable power.

HOWEVER, to be blunt, there are a bunch of ignorant fools who throw this big stick in their car when they should not have any business doing such with the setup they have. This will result in the car driving like a turd and getting your *** stomped by a car that has been built correctly.

Here are SOME things your car & engine should have going for it to make your CC306 decision enjoyable:

loose converter
low rear gear ratios (numerically high)
bumped Static compression
long tube headers
valvetrain stability
stronger rod bolts if you don't want to lessen shortblocks life.

If you don't do this stuff, be smart and run a smaller cam.

And also, how a cam sounds should NOT be a trait you are focusing on. Spec the correct cam and let the sound fall wherever it may end up. If you spec a big cam solely just so it can sound like it's "cammign from hail"; those guys over in the corner of the lot pointing and snickering will be making fun of your slow *** poseur self.

That's all I have to say.......................for now.

I didn't forget them...You can make this cam work without changing the heads. Of course changing the heads can even bring MORE power but you still need to do the rest.

if you're six speed then your left foot is in control and you can disregard the stall converter portion of the above statement

Actually if you're 6 speed I would recommend a 4.10 gear for that cam, minimum. My buddies car has 3.73s with it and it runs like poop. You can easily tell it would benefit from more gear.
