Default What Is This Plug Telling Me

While I am installing headers, I checked my plugs on the driver side. Number 5 (second from the rear driver side, that's 5 right?) is brown on the insulator. The others are still fairly white. Plugs have only 2-3000 miles and are NGK TR55IX Iridium. Gap is .054 and using MSD wires installed at the same time as the plugs. Pic below.

The darker one may be running too cold, but you think you would have more then 1 like that. Could have been seated wrong. I have seen alot worse.

Have any of your wires ever been found loose or not fully connected? Also, take that injector and switch it with the next one. then check the plugs after a few hundred miles.

The wire is not burned. It didn't feel loose when I pulled it off the plug. I can check the other end. I was wondering about the leaky injector. Good idea about switching it around and see if the problem follows the injector.

Try that and see if there's changes in the plug. If it's a consistent issue it can possibly be rings which can be checked by a compression test or even worn valve guides which is allowing some oil through. Have any pics from the top view? Would be nice to see the electrode or the flat surface where the threads begin

i also agree with doing that even though the plug looks only carbon fouled and not oil fouled out.what i do notice is the timing mark on the strap..its not really there which means shes not really fireing of like she should be if you ask me to put the heat/timing mark on the plug.but its hard to see on the bad plug.

to bowtie boy he had it seated right because if not you would beable to see it right at the tip an start of the threads on the plugs..

So you can read timing by looking at the SIDE of the strap now huh?...

And you can see the timing marks, on the plugs, in the pic above?

yes you can see the timing mark on the side of the plug.you can see on the good plug where the timing is on the ground strap from the side and from the front..i clearly said you cant really see on the other because of the bad pic but it looks like its not lighting off right.so there for hes not getting the proper heat to show the mark an could be the reason for the rich condition or 1 of them..

Is it using oil? Looks as though you may have low compression on that cylinder, the strap is "wet" and it aint with fuel.

We need a pic from the top please.

Car has never used oil that I could tell. Wetness may be where I wiped off some excess anti-seize and dragged it down there.

Soon as I wake up from this nightmare that is my header installation I will start checking for injector leaks.

Thanks for all the input. Will post back when I check the injectors.

Gas injectors dont usually"overfuel", they will leak down when the car is off.

Is the car hard to start?

Does it miss or rough idle when it does start?

If not, its probably not an injector.

I would do a leakdown on that cylinder.

No hard starts, rough idles, or misfires. At one time I was having trouble with occasional hard starts, but a new fpr fixed that. That was replaced before I got these plugs.
