LS1 brakes use twin-piston calipers. Should be easy enough to spot.

I have no idea how to tell the difference or anything...I know almost nothing about brakes to be honest. I know what a twin-piston caliper is, but how do I tell if they are twin-piston or not? Mine are powdercoated red with a "CAMARO SS" decal on the side of it. My fronts look NOTHING like my rears and I KNOW my rears are stock.

Sorry for the ignorance, I am trying to educate myself before I even TRY to take on new rotors...wanna make sure I get the right stuff.

Ls1 calipers are aluminum, lt1's are steel. Ls1 rotors are 12" dia, lt1's are around 10.5".

A twin piston caliper looks like the right one, single looks like the left.

Notice which feature of the caliper is doubled.

You just need to go to your local wrecking yard and get the complete spindle off of an LS1 car, Spindle, calipers and rotor...Once you install these you will have to get an alignment done...

also keep in mind that the ls1 lines are typically too short. you can either stretch the lt1 lines (or bend out the hard line) or get some new longer lines.

Calipers, rotors, spindles, new cotter pins, longer brake line. I bought the J&M LT1 style stainless steel lines for mine.

just for more referance for the future......

The stock brake lines compared to the J&M

The difference between the spindles. Left is the LT1, Right is the LS1

Differences In the Calipers. Left is LS1 right is LT1.

All the Ls1 stuff. pretty straight forward swap

I knew I needed longer lines. Also I need some rear brakes as well because the deal for my LS1 rears fell through

the ls1 rears are a total PITA compared to the front.

I will add:
LT1 = 10" rotors
LS1 = 12" rotors

I am not too worried about the rears being a PITA. I am building an entire 8.8 rear end and gonna install the LS1 rears on that when i do the rear swap.

I am losing my ABS thanks to this 8.8 rear end so I dont have to worry about that either.
