Which timing set to get for cam swap?

Default Which timing set to get for cam swap?

I am doing a heads/cam swap onto a 53k mile shortblock, that is without a timing set. I have the old timing set off of my 171k engine, but I feel that it is probably too worn out to use again. I have read that the stock GM set is more than sufficient for a heads/cam build, but which should I go with? Should I reuse the gears and just get a new chain, new GM full timing set or Lunati set ($99.95 Summit)?

you should always replace them as a set

That's what I was probably going to do anyway. So which set should I get?

Crank sprocket - part #: 10128346
Chain - part #: 10128485

All GM. Just order it from Summit

So $160 for a stock GM timing set from Summit? Seems a little high to me, would the Lunati set not be just as good for $100?

Make sure it has the provision for a waterpump, that is if you don't have an EWP.

i just got a new chain for mine when i did my h/c/i, no need to replace the gears since they are steel

thats what i want to do but everyone told me not to, so now idk what to do. I wont put the new gears, so it's either a new chain with the old gears or my old chain and old gears

It is foolish to think that there would be no wear on the sprockets. It's metal to metal. The chain and sprockets wear together. I highly suggest that anyone who reads this opts to change the chain AND sprockets.
