Digital 6 MSD Install Help
I was planning on purchasing a new coil and ICM, but it looks like I could go digital MSD for just a little more. What do I need and what process do I go through to perform a successful installation. Also, how is the reliability of them? Thanks...
Well, you get instructions when you buy the unit. That should help you install it. And you can either splice/solder into the coil wires or buy the $30 coil splice kit that MSD offers.
Its pretty simple if you get the harness that plugs in on the coil, then all you have to do is connect two wires to the harness and give it a 12v and a ground and your good. I've had mine in my car for 3 years and I bought it used, its a great system but if your not going to use the extra features then it's a bit overkill. The best part about it is the fact that you don't have to buy the pills, everything is adjustable with a flathead. Keep it dry and mount it on the rubber shocks and you souldn't have any issues with it.
Here is where I mounted mine

Lets just say it hypothetically increases highway gas mileage 1 mpg, which i highly doubt it would. How long would it take to pay off that 300 dollar ignition box? i'll still classify it as a pointless mod.
having a 2 step rev limiter in a six speed yeah you're right that sounds stupid
And I guess the box did absolutely nothing to smooth your idle then either, did someone over at MSD offend you or something?

i didn't really care about having a smooth idle... i had like 30 degrees of overlap. New cam has like 60 degrees of overlap @ .050 so I doubt it'd be noticeable
2 step... yea the guy is running 17" street tires and an ls1 aluminum driveshaft I'm sure that 2 step would be real useful.
