Autometer Sport Comp. I think its best as it gets the job done, if ls1tech is correct its more accurate than the stock tachometer. I like the shift light, I actually just got it back from Autometer, I sent it in for service after it went nuts and started to read double after seven years of service. I should mention Autometer's customer service is top notch, $43 shipped they replaced the whole harness, the light housing/shift light adjustment unit and needle. Tach looked new when I took it out of the box when it came back!

Huge tachometer haters can have their opinion. I've had a large tach in all three of my fbodies, I like them!!!! First an Autometer Cobalt which I would still have if it didn't get stolen, and now its replacement for the last seven years.

Edit: I need to clean it, looking at the picture I got a smudge on it during install. I did the grommet this time on the a pillar, I used to just have the wires hanging around in a ugly mess on the dash. You are also looking at my freshly finished dash gluing/wrapping project.

i'll try to snap a pic of mine, it's mounted on the dash centered above that upper right A/C vent. For me, I felt like it gave a lot easier view of the tach when driving around/making a pass. It does do a fantastic job of blocking my view of traffic in, say a parking lot

Nope - not copying. No E85, never a BRE cam, and I believe I had the TH400 a few weeks before you said you were switching.

When are you going to be done so we can go racing?

converter and shortblock should be done next week. hopefully only takes me 4 or 5 days to get it back together. i have a lot of little **** to do, like wiring the dfi and gauges, shifter install and adjustment, figuring out where to put these trans coolers, tuning, etc. Not really looking forward to the DFI install, a 12 pack of bud light will make it more interesting, but i'm not sure if drunken wiring is the best route to go

I really miss my Cobalt tach, I guess at the time when mine got stolen I must have been pissed enough to not spend the almost extra $100 for the Cobalt over the Sport Comp. Unfortunately the LED bulb I have in the Sport Comp doesn't do nearly as well to illuminate blue as the Cobalt series does. Anyone know of a company that makes the right size bulb for the tachometers? Autometers bulb is kinda weak, and sometimes flickers.

anyone know why are all the 5" tach's 10k RPM scale? i was looking around for a 5" for a long time and gave up because they are all 10k. It would be really nice to see one even 8k, but 10k i can't see anyone needing unless it's a nascar car.

There are Autometer units to 8k. Look over Summit's site.

I think its due to the fact you can use an Autometer tach on 4,6,8 cylinders. A lot of Honda guys spin some of those motors past 8k, hell the original S2000 had a 9000 RPM redline. That's just one example I can think of, I think rotories can spin stupid high also?

I've seen the Autometer 8k's, I imagine you can't get them in all the styles though?

sorry for the thread hijack, but does anyone know if you can take off the shift light, and mount a raptor light instead. The reason I ask is I would like to have the 5" tach on the right and run the raptor in the a-pillar vent.

Ive had a hell of a time getting my raptor shift light to work. Seems to lose its memory when I turn the power off to the car. Gonna sell it and buy another 5" auto meter. I had one previously mounted to the a pillar just like Davids. I had to take it off when I put my water and temp gauges there. Havent decided where to put the new one.

I have my water and oil under my Radio, go to RK sport and they make a panel to go there. I love my tach where it is, all of my cars have had the tachs mounted on the A pillar.
