cnc ported heads
cnc ported heads hey guys I bought me a set of cnc ported heads from a local garage, he flow tested them and they were between 195 and 200cc also they have a 3angle valve job whatever that is ,any idea how much I should pick up over stock?
If you're talking about using CNC ported heads with a stock cam, the gains will be minimal...maybe 5 or 10 HP. That could be as high as 50HP with an appropriately sized cam.
Completely dependent on the design of the port, might be great, might have just ruined a set of heads, or anything in between. Also contrary to what these guys are telling you flow numbers are NOT the real measure of a head, they are an easy marketing tool but not a true indication of performance potential.
Only way you can know anything is to find someone else using CNC'd heads from that same program and shop or bolt your own set on and try them.
People seem to blindly believe CNC is good, but those of us who use CNC equipment are all too familiar with the phrase "**** in, **** out" if the program is bad CNC will give you a prefect reproduction of that bad program. Actually with poor setup it is even possible to get a poor reproduction of the program. You don't want to see what happens when material is not secured well enough while CNCing.
