Is it time for a rebuild? LT1
Do you guys hear piston slap? MY 04 Colorado has done it since new when cold, so just wondering if this is normal for cold LT1s??? Also what kind of oil pressure do you get on hot idle? I am thinking the engine will have to be pulled to change the oil pan gasket??? And it would make it much easier to do the cam swap as well?
Should I pull the motor replace the gaskets and install a nice cam fresh timming set springs etc.. Or is that just like putting a band aide on a bigger problem?
I wonder if I could just hone the cylinders with a drill and stone through some new rings in, and new bearings with out a over bore and, without turning the crank?
Also when idling hot or cold with he hood up I hear tick, tick, tick, sounds like a old Chevy with solid lifters that need to be adjusted, is this normal sounds from the injectors? Or is my valve train also going out the window??
as far as being able to hone and re ring it, that TOTALLY depends on how much wear the cylinder walls already have. With the condition you're describing it's doubtful. But you can always MEASURE when you get it torn down.
I would rebuild it before you go doing a cam swap and beating on it.
