Default stressed cracked timing cover

decided this weekend to do cam exchange,
was careful but still tore oil pan gasket, #$%@!*&!!
still more than half way, but timing cover has little stress? cracks
is this ok or not.
already installe beehives , roller rockers, and new lifters and timing set

Timing cover is aluminum it can be tig welded......

i know a little bit about aluminum casting, pics are key to identifying the actual defect. not having seen it i could guess that it might be an impression from the other half of the casting tool. dunno if that makes sense. if it isn't leaking then, like i said just speculation.

Oil was leaking out of crank seal, so i thought. But cracks around crank and waterpump seals got me a little nervous. For peice of mind, going to replace. Got new opti, waterpump is fairly new.
Computer wont let me post attchments,photos.

Maybe it's just me, but those look like they are just from the casting and not actual cracks? Do they go through to the other side? If not, I would say that they are just from the casting?

Maybe someone else can reply who may know a little more?

i was thinking the same until i looked closer to the crack on the left, how it goes directly to the seal face.

those don't look like full through cracks. I have the same type of stuff on my cover. I think they are actually casting deficiencies. Unless you can push on it and cause the line it's self to flex past it's self then it is not a crack. just a typical aluminum casting problem. Check the machined surface where the seals go and make sure there is no lip that would cause it to leak, other wise LT1 seals don't actually seal up that well, some get lucky but most leak within the first year again.
