It was on his big block '67 or '68 Camaro. Couldn't believe it first time I watched him do it. Crane roller rockers and a stud girdle. There were no Jessel or TRD rockers then. Those guys were still kids racing their own cars then. <G> I've never seen anyone else do it. It was at the 1967 (or '68?) NHRA World Finals here in Tulsa. I had to go get a witness before he buttoned it back up, nobody would have believed me if I had just told it with no witness.

Personally, I set mine warm, then find which feeler blades check correctly cold, so I can set them correctly when I put it back together. Actually, I don't even set mine warm anymore.
LOL, my brother was at those World Finals in Tulsa (spectator).

I had never really heard of anyone doing solids with it running (I never have done it), but on another board, the old heads said it was done all the time in the past.

If you've got a Gen 1 with stamped rockers, it's really easy. Having the little clippies that cover the oil hole makes it so it's not a mess either.

Don't try it on a SBF with the rail type rockers.

My spec is .020 intake/.024 exhaust hot. I set them at .016/.020 cold.

Back when I was much younger I'd help my grandfather set the lash on Big Block Mopars with the engine's running (for some reason it seems like all the mopars he'd wrench on were running solid lifters..) I remember setting lash on numerous 225 slant sixes running, once again seems like they all had solids too.......

Name is Doug, and no, I don't race much anymore. I did get my '95 S-10 4 banger to the track last year for the comedy relief. I managed to line up next to a guy with an S-10 that went 10.8. I think the guy in the tower took a nap waiting for me....19.16/69. It was a hoot, regardless. I've got a '96 WS-6 M6, but don't race it cuz at the moment I can't afford to replace the 10 bolt when I break it. I'm one of Tulsa Public Schools lay offs come the end of June. One day...
