I previously ran a Yank SS3600 and now a PT4000 and I have been very please with both. I miss my old SS3600, that thing was a blast on the street. With that said, I want to change to a different converter within the next year or so and I will probaly get a custom FTI or Circle D just to try out one of the other great converter companies out there. Vigilante and Edge also have good reputations from what I've seen and I wouldn't hesitate to run either.

Ive only heard great things about Yank and Circle D. I'm going with a Yank SS3600 when the funds allow Gotta support the 'tech sponsors, of course

A lot of people run Vigilantes too, which perform great from what i've seen, but I've heard of a few people having issues with their warranty.

The PT4000 is better at the track because it has a stronger top-end and it keeps the revs up between shifts really well. But on the street its a little more loose than I would like, with the exhaust being so loud it really doesn't help. Driving around with the SS3600 the car felt like it had insane amounts of torque everywhere throughout the powerband, slight blip of the throttle and I was lighting my tires up. The PT4000 feels quite a bit looser so I lost alot of that torque feel which I miss. IMO, for N/A car with track times as a priority the PT series is the answer but the SS series are alot more fun on the street.

i'm running an edge 3400 converter that was spec'd out for my setup, and it performed flawlessly. dropped .6 off both my 1/8 and 1/4 times over my 6spd. and picked up 2mph as well!

for a $500 converter shipped to my door, I really can't complain. i've had a couple friends run edge converters with their low 9sec cars and haven't had a single issue with them.

Vig 3400 here and absolutely love it. it's been on the car for a long time with not one issue with it. locks up at 45 to save SOME gas and hits hard as a tank

Wow, thanks for the replies. Ok, after reading through everything, I am leaning toward Yank or Edge.

Couple Dumb Questions...
SS3600 & PT4000...are those both Yank Converters???
Any Vendors on here carry Edge??

Again, I only need around a 3200-3500, but I want a hard hitter made strictly for track use. The car isn't a street car, and isn't even tagged for street use....just a bracket *****.

Got a guy local who is selling a TCI 3500 for $350, so I may go that route. not sure yet.
*****EDIT***** Until I finally read the article posted about TCIs...

Looks like I'm going either Edge or Yank. Need to look at some pricing first.

Yes the SS3600 and PT4000 are both Yanks. The SS is great with spray, the PT is an N/A converter.

I'm getting an 8" 5000 stall built right now. It's going to be around $950. I'm getting mine made locally from competitiontransmission.com . They are 3 miles from me. The owner explained to me exactly how some of these so-called big-name companies get their 10"+up converters to stall high. He said they go negative on the fin angle which is the WRONG way to do it. He says you lose top-end efficiency and you lose strength. He said it's way easier to do it that way though, which is why some companies can sell you a brand new converter on ebay for $400-$500 which stalls at 4000rpm. My local guy welds every fin and then adjusts the stator to give the car the correct stall. Everything is welded and brazed. He also told me the weight difference between an 8" and a 10" is quite a lot, which gives the car the "flywheel effect", ie it will rev a little quicker. Kinda like going from a heavy flywheel to a aluminum one.
