Will a Ls1 computer work in a LT1?
Will a Ls1 computer work in a LT1? Im planning on building my engine to rev at 8000rpm next year, its already a 396, with a stock ported intake with a 58mm TB, 36ib injectors, trickflow heads, healthy cam. I plan puting a new intake, better heads, bigger cam, solid roller, etc on it. From what i understand the lt1 computer can only handle around 7000. I know it can can be done and read some threads about it but i didnt understand what all they actually did, so if anyone can explain what all needs to be done it would be greatly apreciated. oh and would i need bigger injectors?

they make a kit that replaces the optispark with a cam sensor, includes a reluctor wheel for the crank sensor, and a harness that has the correct firing order because ls motors are different

The PCM swap has nothing to do with the injector requirements of the engine, so if they're doing the job now, no you won't need to upgrade.
But the next question is why in the hell do you want to rev to 8000?
How do you know your setup really needs that.
it takes a lot of money to build for those kind of rpms, and still really be making power.

Thanks for the info, its just an idea for next year, i just want to stay NA and make around 450-500 rwhp through a auto trans. My dad builds a lot of stock car engines that are reving 8000 and making 650-750 HP with higher compression and race fuel, its just a thought, plus a engine that revs at 8000 just sound wicked.
True. I doubt you need to go that high to reach your goal though.
Just curious what kind of engines he builds like that? I have some friends who build circle track motors that rev that high and they think they can just throw them in a street car and it will be a raper. When in reality it doesnt always work out too well.

some of the more high dollar engines he builds which are puting out over 700hp are just way out of my price range, they are running sb2 heads, titanium valves, callies light weight cranks, etc, all the expensive stuff lol. He built a 396 SB with the same rotating assembly as my engine, Srp pistons, eagle h-beams, and a eagle 3.875 crank. but he had brodix heads, bigger cam, carbuerator, and 13:1 compression, and running race fuel. he was puting down a little over 600 hp @ about 7800 rpm

.The EFI connection setup looks like the ticket, and will be what I go with once everything is up to that point.
Like stated, you will need some quality parts to reliably make that kind of power and spin that much rpms.
sounds like my dream engine there. i learned how to build engines from my father and uncle who raced stock cars. these were honest small blocks that were making 800+ at over 8000rpm. they were using heads from the likes of hendricks and rcr. i got my "big cam fetish" from these engines. the sad truth is that you would need heads flowing around 400cfm with cams approaching 270 degrees of duration or more. and using rods that you wont find from callies. (maybe they have them, i am not sure) think oliver. cranks need to be ultra light, perhaps from moldex. not to mention i doubt an LT1 block can handle it without modification. as far is induction/ignition goes, it would be easier and cheaper to swap over to a carb and distrbutor for this. a custom intake would be a must since i don't think there is an intake for an LT1 that can breath this deep. but still, its a killer idea, nothing sound better then an 8cylinder cresting 8k.

As it stands now it would be extremely difficult to make even close to that kind of power with an LTX platform. Maybe if GM re-released the Bowtie block, you stroked and poked it as far as it can go, custom sheetmetal intake, aftermarket EFI, and you converted some nasty SB2.2 heads.

Difficult to make 450-500 rwhp with and ltx? ive seen a few ltxs on here making that power.
