mail order tune
#4
From my experience with email/mail-order tunes don't do it unless you have a stock engine. I just put a cam in my car and it runs better on the bone stock factory tune than with my "custom" email tune. It is very much worth it to get a dyno tune or have somebody good do a ride along in person. Mail-orders are very generic and every car behaves differently.

This is true to an extent, but some mail tuners work with you (Solomon @ lt1pcmtuning for example). He will give you a base-line and ask you to data-log the car numerous times for him to get things just right (you get 3 free fine tunes). I don't have anyone remotely in the area that does LT1's, so I have relied on him thus far, and I'll tell ya what, car runs great. It's almost like having a tuner right there, except it just takes a bit longer since it's via email. Send him some A/F charts from a wide-band and he can get it pretty spot-on.

so im kinda stuck between a rock and hard place and now i want to get a new converter and they want to know the shift points to help pick the right converter. So do i leave the stock conveter it all as is with the stock tune or get it flashed and get a new converter to go with the set up

+1 Solomon at LT1pcmtuning.com is offering great service. I've chatted with him through emails and seems to be a very helpful guy. Offers tunes through email without having your car down if you have tuning software and a cable. He lets you datalog it and uses your datalog to improve the tune like 3 times. And the price for an email tune is extremely cheap.

what kind of setup are you running? pcmforless seems to have a lot of followers and people who have good results, but ive heard a couple bad reivews too(more good than bad by far). I plan on doing pcmforless on my bolt on car, they have a pretty extensive/in-depth order forum and seem to be very knowledgable.

My PCMFORLESS tune was TERRIBLE and the support they offered is a joke.
It sucks when they dont even use LT1 tables to tune an LT1. Kind of makes it interesting to figure out whats going on.
You need a tuner who will either work with you to get it right by datalogging, or dyno tune it.
