Mine was making a ticking noise before I had a rod bearing go out. Never heard it from the bottom of the motor always sounded like a lifter or a pushrod. But after checking everything I started to plan a rebuild and had the #8 rod bearing go out on the way to the shop. Ater pulling everything apart you still couldn't hear the noise by spinning the crank. My ticking noise was piston slap from the bearings goin out at 200,010 miles.

If the pushrods are clogged, I would think that the rockers won't get oil. Check to see if any of the pushrods are clogged.
