I'm with 01ssreda4. I bought a chandler motorsports opti for 115 a year and a half ago and its running strong. It seemed like a great quality product. Runs great.

Looking up what an Allen Synchrograph is:

"We unbox, modify, rebuild and test every single unit ourselves on our Allen Synchrograph to make sure you get a 100% working distributor with no issues, ready to drop-in and run."

Looks like they (buyitnowmakeityours) have 4 vented and 2 unvented left at time of this post...
An Allen Syncrograph is used for old school style distributors. An OptiSpark distributor CAN NOT be "setup" on it.

Sam Taylor Buick and Caddy has them dirt cheap, Always got GM parts through them and save considerable.

Default Dynaspark

I purchased a Delco Opti from the Chevy dealer, car would not start, the internals were pressed in 180 out!, I have had customers with MSD's with problems, Accell's with problems, I run the Dynaspark and have never had a problem, this is on a Z that made 722 RWHP Forced Inducted. I am rebuilding the engine and sent the Dyna spark back to them to freshen it up. They completely rebuilt it, all new interals, cap and rotor and even the harness is new for $90.00.

Dude. I know it's too late for this particular situation, but there are alternatives to getting screwed by your local dealer. Sam Taylor Buick/Jason Cromer, sells parts for a lot less than most dealers, and they don't screw you on shipping. Give them a shot for future purchases.

I asked him all the questions I knew people on tech would be interested in knowing.

Could you share the questions/answers with us?

Well, this was a week or so ago so I dont remember the exact conversation. I do know his returns have been very low, percentage wise. His is a unit that he specifically has tested and feels is the best for the price range. He doesnt sell them at rock bottom prices, however, he is willing to stand behind each and every sale with good customer service and support. No hassle warranty exchanges. He promised an overall good buying experience with a good product for a very reasonable price IMO. Thats why I suggested he become a sponsor on here. And he said he intended to, however, he wants to make sure he has his ducks in a row before he starts paying sponsorship fees for several websites. He seemed genuine, wanting to bring a strong product/price to the marketplace, and felt this was an alternative to the $300-500 OEM units.

Ok, I understand where you're coming from. However, at that price, would I be correct in assuming that his units are "rebuilds"?

I had to replace my OE unit last year, at 65,000 miles, not because it wasn't functioning, but because the bushing had gone bad, allowing the rotor to "wobble". (I didn't find this out, until I had invested in a new cap and rotor....damn!)

^^^Let me be clear, Im not that familair with optis at all. He never used the word rebuild that I can remember. I believe there is one specific supplier that he has found puts out the best product for that price range and thats the one he chose to sell with his name on it. I could be wrong on the exact details of how all that works. But, the main just of it all, was that he felt it was the strongest product for that price range after trial and error with different units.

The only time I paid $500 for a Opti was when the MSD's had just come out, good timing to as mine had finally died.

I've been snagging them used off of here for the last two Opti replacements I did for people. Granted I help friends and family, not strangers, so I suppose I'm comfortable with this route.

I replaced my opti 3 years ago, I went threw one of those car washes with a blower at the end and it pushed water in it. I had 100k on it at the time, ive only put 6k miles on the new one in the 3 years but if it goes out again im going to spend the $600 for the dynaspark if i dont go with the coil per cylinder route

The unit sold by chandler motorsports is also made by the same company that manufactures the MSD unit's in China. The internals seem to be much thicker/larger than OEM as well, regardless mine is holding up really well so far.

thanks man, i searched for em on google, ill consider this next time.
I knew there were alternatives, but when i comes to the opti its only GM for me.
my last GM opti lasted for over 4 years, so i didnt mind paying $505 for a genuine GM opti thats gonna give me a peice of mind for a long while
