Default why is the temp reading different?

im going to do my best to describe my situation so bear with me!

I changed the waterpump on my 1997 Lt1 ,When i started the car i saw i notice my fans were not kicking on and it was close to overheating i decided not to mess with it any longer.
i took it to a local shop where they perform the following:
*new coolant temp sensor
*new thermostat 180*
*bleeed coolant system
*flushed radiator

*before fans will kick in at around 225-230 and drop down temp to like 210-220.
*Today when i got it back notice that the fans are not kicking in like before. they are kicking on at 235-240(they go on when they are so close to the red).
why is this?
does it take time for the new parts to start sending in the right signals?

That's normal for the LT1, you need to have a fan switch added or have your PCM programmed to kick them on earlier. As long as it doesn't get into the red, you're fine. Mine when stock would get a tad over the 3/4 mark in traffic.

Maybe it was tuned to come on early before and the shop took it off, wouldnt be the first time a shop has flashed a PCM back to stock

take into consideration that the PCM reads from the water pump sensor and the gauge cluster from the sensor in the head. you might wanna hook up a 3rd party gauge just to make sure it really is off by that much.

You need to get a tune, I would recommend a mail order tune to get your fans to kick on earlier and you may notice a difference in power. There are several people who provide this service trifecta, pcmforless, and madtuner are a few of the more popular ones.

My experience with madtuner has been great so far! PCM For Less is good too. I don't feel a need to go into detail, but personally I didn't have a great experience with Trifecta. I seem to be a minority though.

I did trifecta when I built my 383 for my 97, he is really good. He can send you the equipment and then you can load the tune and do a data log and email him data logs so he can check everything and then if it needs to be adjusted he just E-mails you the new tune file and you load it in the tunner and reprogram the PCM. I like it because there is realy no down time and no removing the pcm. He was able to tell that I had a small exhaust leak on my passenger side header just by looking at the data logs I sent him when I had no clue it was there.
