Default Trick flow questions

Im looking to get some of the new trick flow 21 degree heads and I had a few questions.

First, the valves are they lighter then the stock lt1 valves? i'd assume they are but I'd like to know for sure.

Second, The springs they advertise are ls double valve springs but they don't give a name brand (that I could see) Anyone know what brand and how well they hold up.

Third, I'd like to know any problems people have had with them, they are a pretty new head and I can't find any dirt witch could be a good thing. But if there is some issues i'd like to know.

And to close, Please don't turn this into a AI/LE/whos better thread. Im getting trick flows because of the summit card.

If anyone is interested these are going on a 355 block with 6' rods, LE cam 226/230 .565/.565 111 and home ported lt1 intake w/ BBK 52mm TB

as far as their valve goes I am sure it is just a middle of the road valve, nothing special about them. The springs are trick flow springs the are a little heavy for a hyd roller but just make sure that you have a good set of lifters, ls7's would be fine, the springs are an ls style 1.300 OD dual valve spring which have 150# on seat and 403# at .565 lift. They are a decent head nothing wrong with them as cast although I am going to have mine ported this winter. They look really good out of the box and perform well for an out of the box head, the only thing to watch out for is the type of spark plugs you use. These heads (as most aftermarket heads) are a thicker casting so the reach on the plug needs to be .750 and they also require a gasket seat plug not a tapered seat like stock lt1 heads.

I think the springs are fine, I have spoken to a few reputable lt1 cylinder head shops and they seem to think they are fine. There is nothing wrong with having some spring on it as long as you have a lifter that can keep up without collapsing, at least you'll never have to worry about valve float

you could always talk to trickflow... but they're not going to tell you the valves are chinese and the springs are associated. I think its good practice to order heads bare.

Just in case your not aware we only use Ferrea valves in our heads. In some of our heads we use Associated springs and in others we use PAC springs that all depends on the applications.

does it really matter what it costs, when you're setting them up exactly how you want them? Then again that kind of free choice could be dangerous for 99% of LT1 owners.

Are you 100% positive of this?? I had heard otherwise and will call Trickflow to verify.

My shop just fired up my fresh motor with these heads and standard plugs. If the plugs don't fire properly, I don't want the cylinders to wash down with fuel.

I have yet to call Trickflow. Maybe *Trickflow Tech* can comment.

It is a 355ci blower motor using TR6s.

yes I am 110% positive on the plugs, I hope you guys did not put too much torque on those tapered seat plugs effectively chamfering the gasket seat sealing surface

Not sure. I was just at the shop to hear it fire up and all sounded and looked good.

Edit: just caled Trickflow and YES, these heads do use a gasketed plug with a 3/4 inch reach.

Thanks

Isn't that stock heat range. Should it not be the 4554??

the last number indicates the heat range. the 5671 plugs are a non extended tip race plug and only go down to a 7 heat range (r5671a-7), one step colder than those tr6s. I run the -8 (4554) plugs in my motor because of the compression I'm running, they work fine for me. Either the 7 or 8 will be lots better than those glow plug tr6s.

I called trickflow wed. they said they will take a gasket or tappered seat plug. But they do call for a .750 reach
