Default new LT1 owner

Hey everyone I am the proud owner of a 94 Z LT1 M6.The only engine mods that I know of is the SLP 2OTL and K&N FIPK. I am planning on road course style racing. The car has plenty of suspension upgrades to get me started. But what do I need to know about the LT1 other than the opti to help keep this thing alive and maybe even make a little more power down the road. Oh and I would like to strip the engine to bare essenntials anyone know what belt to get and any tips or tricks on doing that. Thanks

If the water pump pukes, it'll take the Opti with it.
Define bare essentials...this will vary by personal preference, which leaves too much latitude to guess.

you can strip off the A/C and PS for a bit of weight savings - not sure on the belt length tho. you will need a relocator kit to delete both. Beware the intake manifold as it is prone to leaks on the backside. If you don't like the opti you can 'opt-out' for another system that only utilizes the optical input like the Delteq system.

What I mean is all I want is P/S and ALT. and get rid of emmisions crap. This car is not really gonna be driven to much on the street. Also I have heard that there may or may not be a speed limiter. If so how do I get around it? LT1's are new territory for me thanks for the help

Emissions can be removed easily. For the AIR you need to remove the pump from the driver's side head, then take out all of the lines/pipes that were associated with it. For the EGR it is located on the back of the intake manifold and needs to be blocked off with a set of plates.

I know all about the opti. And when this motor goes I may do the LS swap. The series I am looking at has a limit on power. What about the belt is it gonna be a different one once I take everything off except P/S and Alt?

Lt1's still hang with any motor out their. If you can do the work yourself it really is not close (that is cost comparing an lt1 to a newer engine.) Some will call me stupid and a moron but its just the truth for guys who have just not gotten in the game. Look at some headers, exhaust and a cam swap and ls1 brake upgrade. these can be done very cheaply if you can do the work yourself and pay off big at the track also look at some 4.10's. And lt1's in stock form are not great performers, they really need a cam change in my opinion.

www.fraax.com

You'll get much better answers there about road racing f-bodies than here.

I got the LS1 brake upgrade and I am a member on FRRAX as well. I was hoping for some different point of views to help me out. The FRAXX guys have good info I kinda thought maybe the guys hear also be able to help or add to what I am getting there.
I am a mechanic by trade so working on the car is no issue but I am sure everyone has had the same problem I have had when you go to the parts store. Thats why I am asking about the belt.

use a pc of string to wrap around your remaining pulleys then measure how long you need and take the length to the parts store.
