LPP - To Coat or Not to Coat?
#21
on stainless headers you can use about any polish to freshen them up.. wenol is some good stuff..
also are these places quoting coating the inside and outside? thats how you want them coated...

I had my Kooks headers coated. The primary benefits, at least from my understanding, have nothing to do with resistance to corrosion.

You can do it if you want but the only real reason to is cosmetics if you don't like the discoloration. Stainless steel's thermal conductivity coeficient is only like around a 3rd of mild steel. That's why Kooks/LPP/ARH/pretty much every other premium header manufacturer don't offer coated headers. There is no real reason for it. I sort of like the gold/blue/purple that stainless headers take on. They just need to be kept clean.

Being in california and the fact they are stainless takes the purpose of coating for longevity away. The only 3 reasons left would be for cosmetics, a slight power gain and reduced underhood temps. Jet Hots website has a 7 rwhp gain on a 600 hp application I believe. Those gains would be even less on our cars
