Default LT1 w/ cc503

How bad will it run un-tuned? It has untouched internals/heads. I want to make sure I have everything right with the engine install before I get a tune. Has anyone ran theres without a tune?

Also when I do get a tune, what would you guys recommend the shifting points be set at. I figure at the track 6000-6200rpms will be my shift points......Thanks, Mike

I literally just finished my install yesterday. The engine fired up as if I never did anything to it. Ran it @2000 rpm until normal operating temperature and it dropped right to 1000rpm idle which is lopey. I have zero issues with the motor or driveability, however, It did start reading the P0300 code which I have been reading is quite normal with a cam install. The car smells rich but its going in for a full dyno tune session next week. I probably could drive it right now but I want to get every last hp out of this setup and have it run perfect.

As for the automatics, I'm pretty sure a tune is required because it will destroy the transmission or something after a while. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

When I had the cc503 I ran the car untuned for a week or two until I could get it on a dyno. It ran pretty well, would die out in reverse sometimes but it wasn't terrible. I wouldn't recommend going WOT, just keep it easy until you get the tune in there.

As for the shiftpoints I would aim for 6200-6300 RPM, preferably closer to 6300. Any lower and you will be sacrificing a little MPH and any higher you will feel it fall on its face.

Yeah it won't run great but it should run well enough to tell if everything is ok and carefully drive it to the tuner if you choose. I'm not sure what that cam's ideal shift point is but I wouldn't go any higher than the 6200 you mentioned on a bone stock bottom end. You can but if you do you're sort of asking for it.

When I first built my LT1 5yrs ago, I had a 503 cam in it but I also had ported heads and bigger valves with 30svos and an A4. Bottom line, yeah breaks would hardly hold the car at a light and needed to go to N. Car ran with all those mods without a tune. You'll be fine but find a tunner.

driving it w/o a tune would be unwise for any length of time. Running it wont hurt it. I would aim for 6200 max rpm shift point, you dont have enough head for more. I think @ 6200 its going to run out of steam fast from the heads choking it.
