fuel filter is cheap and easy to change if you suspect you have an issue with it you should change it.

thats what came out of my filter.

taking the axle out and changing the pump isnt the hard. we did it in all of about 6 hours we did in in about 2 3 hour clips. while it was out i painted the axle and changed the seals and fluid.

i dont blame you for not wanting to cut a hole in your car i wouldn't do it to mine either.

I actually didn't suspect the fuel filter at first since it only has ~ 10k mi on it, if that.

they still can get dirty and clogged. Your "supposed" to change it out like every 6k.

10k is like 30 tanks of gas. its lot of gas. like 500 gallons

For the price of the fuel system cleaner you could have bought a new fuel filter and changed it yourself in 30min. I also don't like the idea of cutting a hole in my floor. And right now the only thing keeping my gas tank in is 2 straps... so I am debating on upgrading the pump while everything's off..

Get a fuel pressure gauge. That will tell you if it is a fuel pressure problem. Take the vacuum line off the FPR and check pressure. Pressure should be between 42 and 45lbs. I think GM states 43.5. Tape it to the windshield w/out vacuum line running to FPR and do a few quick WOT blips to see if pressure drops. If it does in any way then the fuel pump is going bad.
