You can also use the LS1 coil packs to upgrade your LT1 Ignition! Why not use the 3.8 in the ttype?

Welcome to the site..

Like mentioned about the only thing interchangeable is the Lifters. That and the body connectors on the harnesses..

LT stuff is LT, LS is LS..you have to keep it in the same species..lol

I have alot of info on the swap if ya need help tho.

LS1's are actually 5.7 litre displacement like the LT1 and the SBC 350's.....

346 is the cubic inches, vs 350 cubic inches, but both are classified under 5.7 liter motors....

I thought I saw that the LS1 is actually a 5.6 liter and GM just called it a 5.7 350 motor so that it would have the same appeal as the older 5.7 liter motors?

dont worry about dyno numbers with a lt1, no offense but they are not much on dyno's most of the time. they run better than the numbers they put down. i would start with how fast you want it, if your using boost they sky is the limit.

yep, technically if you do the math 346ci = 5.66xxxxx liters

Since this is your first HP build I think you do not comprehend just how much power 500+rwhp is, start getting much over 400rwhp and it is tough to enjoy on the street, at least at close to legal speeds.

You goal is easily reachable with ported LT1 heads but being your first attempt you probably would hit some big failures along the way. Start a little slower, boltons and maybe heads and cam, learn as you go.

The 4L60E CAN handle this kind of power, just need to use someone truly good with a 4L60E like ProBuilt, Rossler, FLT not one of the volume shops that is popular with ignorant kids on internet forums.

Oh and if retrofitting an injected smallblock into an older car I would not use the LT1. I love this motor and have done better than most playing with it, but if I were swapping a MPI V8 into an 80s or earlier car it would be a LS. The truck motors are dirt cheap, the tuning software is better, lots more options out there for those.

Thats what I thought. Doesnt really matter to me as I like both the LT1 and LS1 but I guess for some very harcore GM heads calling it a 346 would have made them mad.

Displacement = 5.7 Liters (both)
Cubic Inches = 346 (LS1), 350 (LT1)

I call it a 346.. That is what it is..if someone wants to argue that then bust them out on being a retard..

Its a 5.7 cause the numbers are rounded up..5.66=5.7
If it was 5.65 then it wouldve been a 5.6l.

figure out what your goals are and go from there. Do you want a dyno queen? 11 second car? 10 second car? As said dyno #s dont mean anything. There are plenty of boosted LS1s making well over 500 to the ground running high 11s. A H/C LT1 can do that.

i wish i owned a t-type i sure wouldnt put a lt1 or ls1 engine in it...it would have to have a turbo v-6 in a heartbeat... a mildly hopped up turbo v6 will smoke a hopped up lt1..

i hope you know that 87 t-types are pretty rare cars unless its a original v8 car..
there were 27,590 turbo t-types produced through until december of 1987.. pray you dont have a gnx or a we4 and planning on putting an lt1 in one of those.. you would know if you had one of those though, they are completely blacked out.. we4 is super rare...

if it had a v8 in it originally maybe i would put a lt1 in it... but i sure as heck would check the vin and see what you have..

i would ditch the lt1 and go to the ls series, maybe a 408 6.0l or a 427 stroker at least, expesially if you don't have a budget. yeah the lt1's run good and can be made to go fast, but parts are starting to get to the point that price is getting out of hand.

Not too terribly sure about this? I know the '89 GTA's (faster than the Turbo Buicks) where pretty much neck and neck with the factory LT1's...

Impressive for their late 80' debut, but really nothing too spectacular in the big view from what I understand and have seen.

Unless you have already started on your build you might want to look into this potent / great bang for the buck combo.

LQ9 Iron block $750 (GM Performance New)

GM Performance L92 heads $8-900ish (assembled!)

L76 G8/Holden intake $199

Cable TB with cable bracket for L76 from a sponsor $???

Forged 402 Rotating Assembly (balanced) $1900

I believe this combo is good for upwards of 500hp with the right cam. I have heard the unmilled 70cc heads are great for boosting as well. Good luck!

guy i ran around with in high school had one in the early 90's, stock but he added gears, stall, wastegate, and had it tuned in st.louis somewhere.. the thing would fly.. i know he hadnt done anything to the engine.. it ran 7.80's in the 1/8th not the fastest thing, but it was quick on the street back then. it was weird cause you could barely hear it running. it was fun to run around in..

And a few other things called motor mounts or a new k member...transmission, wiring harness...sure its a great bang for the buck if you know/or have time to sort out the project. People have done it such as the merv...its not that cheap though. The block doesn't include sensors...oil pan, reluctor wheel, crank sensor....
